KLOVE and Air1 Radio's slogan "positive and encouraging" is an appropriate overall description of the 2010 Spirit West Coast festivals. Since SWC measures success by the number of lives impacted spiritually, the 7th annual Del Mar event and 14th annual gathering in Monterey were huge successes.
"The Spirit West Coast festivals are spiritual events," reports Director Jon Robberson, "and since our goals are to see lives touched by Jesus Christ we're thrilled to know the goal was again accomplished. Thousands of people left the festivals with a closer relationship to Jesus than when they arrived. So in that respect: mission accomplished!"
Spiritual impact is the #1 priority of the events and the ministry, but boatloads of other "positive and encouraging" things happened again this year as they always do. "What blesses me most beyond the spiritual accomplishments," shares Robberson, "is just seeing people enjoying themselves as they take in the music, the fun and the celebratory atmosphere of the entire SWC experience. It seems everyone is smiling and having a joyful, good time."
The music highlights may be too numerous to list, but watching Michael Tait front the Newsboys set was certainly exciting; as some put it "...Michael sure does bring it when it comes to belting those Newsboys favorites." Family Force 5 really delivered at the Alternative Stage as did Seventh Day Slumber, Hawk Nelson, and Flatfoot 56.
Hundreds of people made first time commitments at each festival, and hundreds more made re-commitments. In total, about 600 children were sponsored for Compassion International, an act of Christian love that extends the impact of SWC around the world. Since 1997 over 11,000 children have been sponsored by SWC attendees.
Festival Operations Director Dave Martinez, who is responsible for the physical set-up of the property, had this to say re-capping 2010: "It's a lot of work getting the sites ready, but we have an incredibly dedicated team of volunteers who make it happen. I can't wait for 2011 so we can see so many people rejoicing in the Lord one more time."
